WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Volleyball team cruised past the Beavers of the California Institute of Technology Friday evening inside of the Graham Athletic Center sweeping the competition 25-21, 25-16, 25-13.
Head Coach Chris Duarte-McDermott used 16 different players to complete the sweep as the Purple & Gold improve to 10-4, 4-2 SCIAC holding onto sole possession of 4th place in the SCIAC Standings.
Whittier hit .316 as a team going .231, .306, and .500 over the three frames. Ashley Whittall (Norwalk, Calif.) was the lone Poet in double figures as she finished with 10 kills on 19 attempts for a .474 hitting percentage. Makenzie Thieme (Corona, Calif.) followed with seven kills and Abby Salmon (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) and Jazmyn Sudbrook-Johnson (Fremont, Calif.) would register six apiece.
Camryn Purdom (Moreno Valley, Calif.) got the start running point totaling 25 assists along with nine digs, while Valerie van der Linden (Rocklin, Calif.) added four kills, hitting .375 with two block assists.
Whittier hits the road today, Saturday, September 30 as they travel to take on Claremont-M-S beginning at 4:00pm.
