WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Baseball team began their movement upwards in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Standings Friday afternoon as they rolled Caltech 15-4 in eight innings.

The Purple & Gold keep their winning streak alive at three games and improve to 20-12, 7-9 SCIAC.  They now sit 6^th in the SCIAC Standings. 

The 15 runs are the most put up by the Poet offense on the season in a single game, with the second most coming in a 10-3 win over Rutgers-Newark back on March 14. 

Alex Baez (Chino Hills, Calif.) got the start at Hugh B. Mendez Stadium and was back to his usual self going 7.0 innings strong giving up one run on four hits en route to picking up his sixth win on the season.

Caltech went on top early bringing across a run in their opening at-bats following a Poet miscue.  Whittier got one back in the bottom half of the 2^nd thanks to a Nick Krska (Happy Valley, OR) fielders choice but again saw themselves trailing the very next inning with CIT bringing across another this time without registering a hit.

In the bottom half of the 3^rd, Whittier again tied things up this time from Brandon Mulrooney (Placentia, Calif.) who drove in Matthew Macey (Oceanside, Calif.) with a single down the right field line.  Then in the 4^th, Whittier gained total control of the game going out in front for the first time with Macey and Michael Angulo (Sunnyvale, Calif.) both collecting base knocks that scored two.

Leading 4-2, WC added to their lead in the 5^th with Steven Castro (Long Beach, Calif.) driving in Mason Blansett (Lodi, Calif.) with a sacrifice fly.  Then in the 6^th, Whittier opened the game up plating six runs on six hits, while capitalizing on two Caltech miscues.  During the rally, Macey, Mulrooney, Andrew Lamar (Alta Loma, Calif.), and Daniel Tuerffs (Yorba Linda, Calif.) would collect hits. 

In the 7^th, Whittier added insurance with John Vuz (Blairstown, NJ) singling down the left field line scoring Mulrooney.  Then to put the finishing touches on the lopsided game, Tuerffs and Addison Mock (San Jose, Calif.) would drive in another three in the 8^th behind their first homeruns of the season.  Tuerffs connected on a solo shot and Mock added a two run blast.

Macey had a day going 4-4 scoring three times, driving in two, while walking twice.  Tuerffs was 2-5 with two runs scored and two runs batted in and Blansett was 2-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.  Other stats on the Poets roster included Vuz going 2-3 and Lamar going 1-5 with a run scored and two RBI's.  Mulrooney also chipped in with a 1-3 effort coming in twice and driving in two with two walks and Krska was 1-4 with two runs scored.                   

Whittier wraps up their three game series with the Beavers tomorrow, Saturday, April 14 with a doubleheader on the road in Pasadena, Calif.  Game times are set for 11:00am and 2:00pm.
