CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College Softball team had their chances Saturday against the Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer but couldn't capitalize as they fell 8-7 and 5-1 on the road.

The Purple & Gold have now been swept in three of their last four series moving to 10-14-1, 7-9 SCIAC.  They currently sit in a tie for 5th place in the SCIAC Standings.

Game 1 (L, 8-7)

Whittier got off to a hot start in game one jumping on top 5-1 after hitting three straight RBI doubles in the 4th coming from Jannelle Ha (Arcadia, Calif.), Brianna MaGee (Torrance, Calif.), and Kacey Whitney (Cypress, Calif.).

Pomona-Pitzer got two back in the bottom half of the 4th with Otsuka hammering a two-run shot to right.  They kept the momentum going in the 5th with another two coming across on a pair of hits that tied the game up at 5-5.  Whittier swung the momentum back in their favor in the 6th with Ha singling to right, MaGee tripling to left center and Whitney grounding out on the infield.  This moved the score to 7-5 but it wouldn't hold as PP would rally in the 6th for two with Lehner doubling down the left field line and Reynoso doubling to left center that again tied things up at 7-7.

Then in the 7th, Whittier fell unfortunate giving up a walk and then a double before seeing Rodarte reach on an error by Whitney that allowed the walk-off run to come in.

Sam Casanas (La Habra, Calif.) got the start and went 4.1 innings giving up five runs on seven hits for the no decision.  Alexis Vargas (Pomona, Calif.) came in relief and gave up three runs on three hits and was tagged with the loss dropping to 2-7.

MaGee finished 3-for-4 scoring three times and driving in another two.  Ha added a 3-for-4 effort, scoring twice and adding an RBI.  Hayley Wishner (Chino, Calif.) was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI and Naomi Martinez (Marina Del Rey, Calif.) was 2-for-4 with a run batted in.

Game 2 (L, 5-1)

Vargas got the start in game two and lasted just an inning giving up a two run shot and two hits.  She picked up the loss moving to 2-8 on the season.  Amanda Melodia (Placentia, Calif.) came in relief and threw the last five innings giving up three runs, which came in the 6th and six hits.

Whittier's lone run came in the 1st.  Whitney started things off with a base hit into center and then stole second with two outs.  After a Brittany Attaway (Claremont, Calif.) single to right Whitney came in to score on a throwing error by the catcher.

Whitney had the lone multi-hit game going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk.  Martinez was 1-for-2 with a walk and MaGee and Wishner were each 1-for-3.

Whittier remains on the road this Saturday, April 6 when they take on Chapman University beginning at 12:00pm and 2:00pm.
