WHITTIER, Calif. – It was a high scoring affair Sunday as the Whittier College Baseball team dropped a 14-7 decision to Lewis & Clark.

Whittier has dropped three of their last four and move to 11-12, 3-6 SCIAC.

Head Coach Mike Rizzo used six pitchers on the day with the loss going to Jack Silva (Katy, TX) who lasted 5.0 Innings giving up five runs (one earned) on five hits with a pair of strikeouts.  The Purple & Gold used nine hits to score seven runs with Daniel Tuerffs (Yorba Linda, Calif.) going 2-for-4 from the plate scoring once and driving in three.  Dane Goodman (Ross, Calif.) also had a big day at the plate going 3-for-4 scoring twice and driving in one.

Whittier had an early lead 2-1 after the first with Goodman tripling down the right field line scoring Brandon Mulrooney (Placentia, Calif.) and Mason Blansett (Lodi, Calif.) driving in the second run with a sacrifice fly.  Then across the 3rd, 4th, and 5th, the Pios added eight runs to open the game up.  Tuerffs got one back for WC in the 5th singling through the left side scoring Jarryd Samsing (Buckeye, AZ) and then provided a spark in the 8th when the Poets put up a four spot on three hits.  Tuerffs started the scoring off with a two-run shot and Will Reader (San Francisco, Calif.) drove in another two singling through the left side.

Whittier opens up a three game series this weekend, April 5-6 when they take on Chapman University.  They host the Panthers on Friday afternoon at 3:00pm before traveling to Orange on Saturday for a doubleheader.  First pitches slated for 11:00am and 2:30pm.
