REDLANDS, Calif. – It was a tough afternoon Saturday for the Whittier College Men's Basketball team who gave up 105 points in a loss to the University of Redlands.

The Purple & Gold have now dropped three of their last four and move to 9-8, 4-4 SCIAC.  After a strong start within Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play the Poets now drop into a four-way tie for 4th in the conference standings.

Whittier held only one lead for the game, which came on their opening possession from Nick Potthoff (Phoenix, AZ) who converted inside.  After that it was all UR who used a 50% shooting night, which included a 16-for-32 effort from deep.  They put together three unanswered three-pointers in less than a minute to go in front 14-2 and they didn't look back.  Redlands put up 59 points in the first half and put WC in a twenty-point hole.

Things got worse in the second for the Poets as Redlands extended their lead to as many as 26.  Whittier attempted a comeback outscoring the Bulldogs 47-46 in the period but it wouldn't be enough as the deficit was too much to overcome.

Four players recorded double digit scoring efforts led by Potthoff who put up a career high 35 points on 10-of-21 shooting.  He also added nine rebounds and was 11-of-14 from the free throw line.  Nick Colosi (La Mirada, Calif.) came off the bench to add 12 points with five rebounds and Jude Agbasi (Los Angeles, Calif.) registered 11 points in just 21 minutes of action.

Point guard Journey Shank (Burbank, Calif.) found double digits finishing with 11 points and also added seven rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Whittier shot 43% from the field and 28% from three-point territory.  They were outrebounded 42-38 and were edged inside 34-32.  They coughed the ball up 17 times, which led to 19 points for the Bulldogs.

After three straight road games Whittier now returns home this Wednesday, January 29 to host Caltech beginning at 7:00pm.
