WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Basketball team remains red hot winning their fourth straight game Wednesday night as they dismissed Caltech 66-53 inside of the Graham Athletic Center.
The Purple & Gold followed up their huge win over Claremont-M-S this past weekend as they improve to 9-6, 3-2 SCIAC. They currently sit in 4th place within the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Standings.
Whittier got off to a slow start falling behind 5-0 and then 10-4 over the opening four minutes. But this wouldn't deter them as they would collect 12 of the next 17 points, which included the final five of the quarter coming from Emily Guerena (Montebello, Calif.) that gave them a 16-15 lead. During the run Daisy Cardenas added a triple, Bella Robles (Lompoc, Calif.) provided a put back and Guerena connected for a buzzer-beater three-pointer.
Allison Lou (Cerritos, Calif.) and Lizzie Scriven (Portland, OR) jump-started the 2nd Quarter with a pair of layups that moved the score to 20-15. Two minutes later the Poets then put together a 12-1 run that opened the game up. Lou knocked down a jumper from the elbow to start things off and Dallas Martinez (Kaneohe, HI) followed with a layin. Teani White (Burbank, Calif.) then made a pair of free-throws, Kellie Ogata (Torrance, Calif.) earned an and one, Cali Cubel (Oceanside, Calif.) knocked down a three-pointer and Guerena ended it all with a put back. This would move the deficit to double digits and they wouldn't look back as Cubel, Martinez and Cyerra Dillard (Fremont, Calif.) would add in layups to end the half moving the score to 40-29.
It was a low scoring affair out of the half with Cubel providing the only points for the Purple & Gold within the first four and half minutes. White then put up the second triple of the 3rd Quarter at the 4:13 mark and that then led to Guerena putting up five consecutive points and Lou finishing off the period with a layup.
Leading by fifteen heading into the final 10:00 minutes WC put their foot on the gas pedal stringing together six straight, capped off with a three-pointer from Cardenas. A few minutes later she again connected from deep and then with 1:17 left in the game added a layup that secured the win.

Cardenas put up 11 points, which included a trio of three-pointers and Cubel posted 10 points with four rebounds, and four assists.
