WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Basketball team recognized their three seniors prior to Saturday night's game against the University of Redlands but couldn't send them off with a win as they fell 105-90 inside of the Graham Athletic Center.
Nick Potthoff (Phoenix, AZ), Kenyatta Louder (Compton, Calif.) and Nolan Black (Olympia, WA) were all acknowledged and despite combining for 55 points were unable to propel the Purple & Gold to a win in their final home game of the 2019-20 season.
For the fifth time this season the Poets have surrendered over 100 points with three of them occurring within Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play. Whittier has now dropped four in a row and eight of their last time moving to 10-14, 5-10 SCIAC.
Louder played 35 minutes finishing with a double double of 26 points and 12 rebounds along with a pair of blocks. Potthoff added a 23 point effort with eight rebounds and two assists and Black registered six points and four rebounds, while shooting 50% from the field.
Nick Colosi (La Mirada, Calif.) found himself in the starting lineup for the first time adding nine points, six rebounds and three assists. Nick Manor-Hall (Chino Hills, Calif.) put up eight points on 3-of-5 shooting in 15 minutes of action.
Whittier shot 43.4% from the field and 35.1% from behind the three-point line. They were outrebounded 54-42 and added 34 points in the paint. They did though force 15 turnovers and got 21 points off of them.
It was a tough opening half for the Poets being held to just 37 points, while seeing Redlands go off for 63 points on 57% shooting and a 59% clip from behind the arc. The only lead the Poets held was a minute into the game, which was four. After that it was all Redlands grabbing an advantage as many as 30, which came at the 1:56 mark before the half.
Whittier wraps up their regular season on the road tonight, February 25 when they travel up to Thousand Oaks, Calif. to take on Cal Lutheran University beginning at 7:00pm.
