Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. (Oct. 29, 2022) - Nainoa Loschky concluded a prolific three-season career as a Poet with his 10th collegiate goal on Senior Night in a 3-2 loss Saturday night to Pomona-Pitzer.
Sophomore Lawrence Dydell opened the scoring early with a goal in the fourth minute for his team-leading fifth of the season.
Speaking of leaders, freshman Rowan Slater delivered the assist, finishing the season tied with three others for most helpers in the conference with five. Expect a lot more magic from this pair over the next two seasons, as they've developed chemistry in their first season playing together. Three of Dydell's five goals this season were assisted by Slater, and both of Slater's were assisted by Dydell.
Dydell finished the season strong with four scores in his final three contests. The Redmond, Wash. native already has 11 goals in two seasons at Whittier.
Pomona-Pitzer scored the next two goals of the match, taking a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute.
About twelve-and-a-half minutes later, Loschky tied the score with his second career penalty kick goal.
The Sagehens scored the final goal of the match in the 81st minute, and the game ultimately ended that way, 3-2.
Teddy Nickerson had three saves, finishing second in the conference with 78 this season and with 277 in his illustrious four-year Whittier career. The Seattle native recorded 17 wins and eight shutouts during this time.
The physical game that featured 10 total yellow cards and a couple of violent collisions began with nothing but love, as Whittier's nine seniors were honored.
Jackson Diamond, Nickerson, Lachlan Davidson, Loschky, Zach Guarino, Vicente Medel, Gerardo Gonzalez, Hayden Barnouw and Tommy Yarbrough were all celebrated with pregame announcements and an on-field ceremony with the seniors' family, friends, teammates and coaches.
Congratulations to the seniors on outstanding careers as Whittier student-athletes! They are Poets for life.
