Poets Season Ends Against Tough Bulldogs Team

Box Score

REDLANDS, Calif. (Nov. 12, 2022)- The Poets traveled to Redlands to take on the Bulldogs in their last game of the season. They were able to put up 14 points on the Bulldogs but would fall by a final of 58-14.

The first quarter saw the Bulldogs score on their first three drives as Whittier was not able to get anything going. As the first quarter was coming to an end the Poets Peter Coleman was able to find Jalen Jolley for a 66-yard reception. When the second quarter started, freshman running back Jason Terry scored his first touchdown of the year with a 1 yard rush into the end zone.

The Poets could not stop the powerful Bulldog's offense and found themselves trailing 31-7 at halftime. The third and fourth were similar to the first half as Redlands took control and never took their foot off the gas. Whittier was able to score on their last drive of the year when quarterback Mark Rodriguez threw an 18-yard dime to Coleman in the endzone.

Jolley once again had a great game for the Poets coming away with five receptions for 117 yards. Coleman was also a big driving force in both possessions in which the Poets scored. He was 1/1 passing for 66 yards and had two receptions for 40 yards and a touchdown.

Izaiah Lazaro and Aaron Martinez led the Poets in total tackles, each walking away with 11. Martinez was also able to force a fumble from the Bulldogs. DJ Williams also played good defense for Whittier, recording eight tackles.

This game brings an end to another Whittier College Poets football season. We would like to say thank you to everyone who followed us throughout the year. Thank you to the parents and fans, who came and supported the men at home and on the road. We will see you next year!
