Box Score REDLANDS, Calif. (Dec. 14, 2022) – The Whittier College Poets fell to the University of Redlands Bulldogs, 74-42, Wednesday night, in their first game since Dec. 3.
After the first quarter, Whittier narrowly trailed, 14-12, with sophomore Rhe Nae Leach leading all scorers with eight points. After the first, the Bulldogs led the rest of the way.
Senior Lainie James paced the Poets in points with 13, in assists with four and co-led in steals with three, alongside fellow senior Lizzie Scriven.
Whittier outscored Redlands in paint points, 24-22. Also encouraging for the Poets was their 12 bench points from four different reserves.
The Bulldogs outrebounded the Poets 38-21 and outshot the visiting team 43.1% to 31.5%, and the 74 points the Poets allowed was the second most they have given up in eight games this season.
Whittier, which has relied on the three-pointer this season, converted just 3-for-18 from beyond the arc.
Junior guard Kailynn Tuck made her season debut returning from injury, while senior Bella Robles also came back from injury to compete in the contest. Tuck started the game, logging eight minutes.
Whittier's next opportunity will come at home Saturday, December 17 vs. George Fox. The non-conference battle is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will tip off 30 minutes after the completion of the men's basketball game directly preceding it.
