WHITTIER, CA. (OCT. 26,2023)- In their final SCIAC match of the season the Poets took on the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen at home. The men played hard and kept the score close, but in the end the Kingsmen held on to win 1-0. 

In the first half, the men came out and were very aggressive. They got deep into the Cal Lutheran territory multiple times, but unfortunately none of their chances resulted in the goals. The Kingsmen however were able to capitalize on a scoring chance in the 36th minute. With a little under 10 minutes left in the first half, Cal Lutheran broke away and netted the first goal of the game. The Kingsmen would take this 1-0 lead into halftime.

After the first goal, the game got very physical and it continued into the second half. Both teams turned their defenses up and would not let the other get many clear opportunities. There were a few chances from both teams but the goalies were showing out tonight. Neither team would score in this second half and the game would end in a 1-0 Poets defeat. 

Breckon Robirds was the brightest spot of the game for Whittier, as he was able to save 6 of the Kingsmen's shots on goal. This concluded SCIAC play for the Poets, but there will be one final game this Saturday. They will be hosting UC Santa Cruz in a non-conference game beginning at 1:00. This is a very special game as we will be honoring the graduating seniors for the Whittier College Poets before the game.
