WHITTIER, Calif. (Feb 11, 2023)- Whittier took on the Caltech Beavers at home in one of their final SCIAC match-ups of the year. The Poets were able to ride a big second half to a big 88-75 victory. 

As the first tip began the game, both teams were ready to battle this game out. Neither team was to roll over and kept trading shots. Halfway through the first the Poets held a small 3 point lead over the Beavers. Caltech would go on a run at the end of the first and took a 39-34 lead into the half. 

The Poets were right in this game thanks to a big first half from Nick Manor-Hall, who was able to score 10 points and also grab 3 steals on the defensive end. Blake Lander was also able to contribute on the offensive end with 9 points. 

Whittier was ready to fight in the second half for the win. After watching the Beavers go on a run to start the half, the Poets answered back with a 15-4 run and took a 51-49 point lead. From this point on, the Poets never looked back. They were able to ride their hot shooting and great defense to a big victory. Whittier would defeat the Beavers by a final of 88-75.

A lot of Poets were able to have big games tonight and it was a well-balanced effort from top to bottom. Bryden Lovdahl provided a huge boost for the Poets during this game using his size to dominate the paint. Lovdahl finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Blake Lander led the Poets in total points as he was able to score 22. Jude Agbasi had a good game for the Poets, being their spark plug off the bench, scoring 13 points. 

The Poets will play their final home game of the season this Wednesday as they take on Cal Lu on senior night. This game will take place at 7:00 PM, so make sure you come out and support your seniors and fellow Poets in their final home match. It will also be the last chance for Whittier students to have a chance to win some cash, by making a half-court shot! Make sure to wear your purple!
