Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. (Feb. 15, 2023) - The Poets battled the Cal Lutheran Regals on Saturday, falling 60-40 on the road. Whittier jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the game, but it was all Cal Lu the rest of the way.
Senior Bella Robles had a career-high five blocks. She has now tallied at least one block in six consecutive games and is averaging 3.3 blocks over her last three contests. As a result of her recent success, the Lompoc native is now tied for second in the SCIAC in blocks per game with 1.4.
Before going down with an injury in the second quarter, junior Kailynn Tuck scored a season-high five points and recorded two steals. She did not return to the game following the injury.
Junior transfer Citlalli Gurrola played big minutes (31), despite not starting, tying for the team high in points with nine and draining three deep balls. Senior Lainie James also scored nine points on Saturday.
Senior Lizzie Scriven collected three more steals, currently ranking second in the SCIAC in steals per game (2.8).
Sophomore guard Rhe Nae Leach paced the Poets in rebounds with nine, pulling down three offensive boards.
Senior Kyra Davis was effective in 10 minutes off the bench, grabbing three offensive rebounds and making her only field goal.
Junior transfer Melanie Meza was also excellent in relief, scoring five points and matching her season high by securing four rebounds in 11 minutes.
