WHITTIER, Calif. (Feb 4, 2023)- Whittier took on a tough CMS team in a SCIAC bout. The Poets would drop this game 97-66. 

As the game began, both teams kept it low scoring with good defense. Halfway through the first CMS had a 21-10 lead. The second half of the first was much better for CMS as they went on a run, while a combination of poor shooting and turnovers contributed to a rough start for Whittier. 

At the half CMS had a 51-19 lead. Blake Lander had a good half scoring 13 of the Poets 19. 

The second began and Whittier looked much better; however, CMS continued their dominance. Halfway through the Stags had increased their lead to 41. Whittier would make a good chunk of their final shots to cut the deficit, but the lead was too big and Whittier would lose 97-66. 

Whittier would shoot 55% from the field in the second half, but this was not enough to bring them back. Lander lead all Poets in scoring with 24. 

The Poets will return to action next Wednesday. They will travel to Redlands to take on the Bulldogs at 7:00.
