Box Score 2 WHITTIER, Calif. (Feb. 4, 2023)- The Poets took on the Puget Sound Loggers in a double-header matchup today. They unfortunately dropped both games, the first one by a score of 9-5 and the second 5-2.
Game 1: Maximus Berber got the ball for the Poets game one, but also wound-up with the loss. He ended with 5 strikeouts in 5 innings.
Both teams scored early and often as the Loggers were able to capture one run in the top of the first, but the Poets were able to answer back. Nathan Sherman lead off the inning with a double, followed by another RBI double from number two hitter Dane Goodman.
The Loggers came back and would score 4 in the top of the second, but once again Whittier had their chance. With two outs a Jay Schulze walk and a James Stirton single got the Poets on a rally. Nathan Sherman stepped to the plate again and produced an RBI single. While Goodman followed suit with a RBI single of his own.
The Poets bats remained silent for the next few innings before Sherman and Goodman put on a 2 out show again. Sherman would work a walk and then Goodman crushed a ball over the left field wall for another 2 RBIs.
Out of the bullpen Arturo Escandon and Ian Nord pitched well for the Poets combining for 4 innings with 2 hits, 1 run, and 5 strikeouts.
Whittier would drop the first game 9-5.
Game 2: As the second game began Marcos Armenta Jr. toed the rubber for the Poets. Armenta pitched well for the Poets going 6 innings, giving up 2 earned runs with 8 strikeouts.
Whittier started their scoring off in the second inning of this game, when Delvan Gomez came to the plate. Ian Watanabe began the inning off with a double. Jack Guerrero was then able to bunt Watanabe over to third, allowing him to score on Gomez's single to right.
Goodman then came to the plate in the fifth and drove in the Poets final run of the day with another RBI double. This double would tie the game at 2.
The Loggers were then able to create some separation in the game scoring 3 runs in the seventh.
Jaycob Agredano came in and closed out the game for the Poets, throwing 1.2 innings with 4 strikeouts.
Whittier would drop this game by a final score of 5-2. They will be back in action tomorrow as they take on Lewis & Clark. This game will begin at 11:00, as the Poets look to secure their first victory of the season.
