Sherman and Goodman Stay Hot, Poets Lose Opening Weekend Finale

Box Score

WHITTIER, Calif. (Feb. 5, 2023)- Whittier took on the visiting Lewis and Clark Pioneers in the final game of its four-game season-opening weekend. A combination of poor pitching and defense led to the Poets' 22-7 loss.

Whittier's bats remained quiet until the third inning when they went on a little run. James Stirton and Nathan Sherman led off the inning by getting hit by pitches. Then Dane Goodman continued his great weekend and drove both of them in with a hit. Lew Rice then came up and hit a triple to bring in Goodman. Maximus Berber would end the run driving in Rice on a groundout.

Whittier was able to score another 3 runs in the bottom half of the fifth. They totaled 4 walks and 2 singles this inning to score the runs.

Eight errors would loom large in the Poets' 22-7 loss to the Pioneers. Whittier will be back in action this Friday as it takes on Whitman. The game will take place at 2:30 p.m.
