Box Score REDLANDS, Calif (Feb. 8, 2023)- The Poets traveled to Redlands to take on the rival Bulldogs in the teams last meeting of the year. Whittier would come out on the bottom this game, losing by a score of 79-64.
The Bulldogs were able to get out to a fast start during this game and had established a 12 point lead less than 10 minutes in. Throughout the first, Redlands continued to take advantage of the Poets turning the ball over. They went into the half leading Whittier 43-23.
Whittier would have a rough first half shooting only 30% from the field and 7% from behind the arc. The team would also have 10 turnovers. Bryant Howing would lead the Poets in points with 6 at the half. Jude Agbasi had 8 rebounds in the half.
As the second half began, the Poets came out wanting to push for a comeback. 3 minutes into the half they were able to cut the lead to 12. Howing would push the Poets in the comeback with 11 second half points, but the lead was just too much to overcome. Redlands would go on to defeat the Poets 79-64.
Whittier once again had a much better second half during this game shooting over 50% from the field and from 3. Overall, the Poets would have 3 men score in double-digits. Howing scored the most with 17, while Nick Manor-Hall and Jude Agbasi both poured in 12 apiece. Whittier was also able to cut their turnovers to only 4 in the second half.
The Poets next game will be this Saturday at home as they take on the CalTech Beavers. This game will take place at 4:00 following the women's game in the second leg of the double-header.
