Box Score REDLANDS, Calif. (March 24, 2023) - Whittier opened SCIAC play with a 7-2 road loss to Redlands Friday, snapping its five-game winning streak.
The Poets stormed out to a 1-0 lead with a fielder's choice by sophomore Maya Palos that scored junior Lindsey Perry.
Senior Jamie Garvey pitched a scoreless first two innings before being relieved by freshman Bella Peinado, who allowed two runs in the inning.
In the top of the fifth, junior Emily Adkison tied the game at two runs apiece with a single to right-center field, which scored senior Kelly Monroy.
The Bulldogs then scored three runs in their half of the fifth and three more, all unearned, in the sixth. The score would end this way, 7-2.
Perry and Monroy each tallied two hits and one run, while Perry and junior Sara Chiala each stole a base. Perry now has four multi-hit games this year and paces the Poets with four stolen bases.
Whittier will host Redlands Saturday for a doubleheader to close out the team's first conference series of the 2023 season. First pitch for Game One at Palmer Field will commence at noon. See you there!
