Box Score LA VERNE, Calif. (March 31, 2023) - Whittier dominated La Verne Friday afternoon on the road, defeating its SCIAC counterpart, 5-0.
Senior Jamie Garvey recorded a shutout victory, pitching her second consecutive complete game with just two hits and zero earned runs allowed. She struck out three while walking one Leopard.
Offensively, the Poets were impressive, roughing up reigning SCIAC Pitcher of the Week Rachel Rubio with five runs on 14 hits.
Five Poets had two hits each in the contest, led by junior Emily Adkison who knocked in four of the squad's five runs.
Adkison hit a three-run homer in the third and ripped a sixth-inning RBI single to left field.
Junior Heaven Wolf, who went 2-for-2 with a sacrifice bunt, recorded the other RBI for Whittier with a double down the right field line in the fifth inning.
Junior Lindsey Perry, senior Kelly Monroy and junior Sara Chiala each also tallied two hits apiece.
Chiala, Wolf, and sophomore Sara Luna each stole a base, while Perry, Wolf and sophomore Bella Bordine each doubled in the contest.
Whittier hosts La Verne Saturday for a doubleheader to close out the series. First pitch for Game One at Palmer Field will commence at noon. See you there!
