Box Score 2 WHITTIER, Calif. (March 6, 2023) - Whittier hosted Manhattanville for a Monday doubleheader, falling 2-0 in Game One and winning, 11-3, by mercy rule in Game Two.
GAME ONE:
Senior Jamie Garvey pitched well in the game, tossing six innings, allowing just two runs on six hits. She struck out four and did not walk a battter.
Both runs scored in the sixth inning on hits by the Valiants.
Whittier had five hits in the game, including three from junior Lindsey Perry, who went 3-for-3 with a stolen base.
GAME TWO:
Game Two was all Poets, who led 11-1 after scoring seven runs in the fourth inning. Ultimately, the game would end by mercy rule, 11-3.
Senior Katelyn Calvetti pitched four strong innings, earning the victory. She allowed two hits and one run with two walks and one strikeout. The lone run she allowed came across in the fourth inning.
Sophomore Maya Palos started at catcher, going 3-for-3 in the game with two doubles and one run. She was 4-for-5 on Monday.
Junior third baseman Marissa Flynn went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run and four RBI. Flynn's blast landed way beyond the left-field fence.
Senior Melissa Carrasco contributed two hits, a run and an RBI, while freshman Lucy Brooks went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
In Game Two, four Poets each stole a base: Perry, Carrasco, Brooks and sophomore Sara Luna.
The Poets host another New York team, the Alfred Saxons, in a Wednesday doubleheader beginning at noon. See you at Palmer Field!
