Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. (March 7, 2023)- The Poets hosted the visiting Rochester Yellow Jackets in the first game of a 3 game series. Whittier would string together some hits, but would eventually fall 12-8.
The Poets got in a hole early in the game, as the Yellow Jackets were able to score 2 in the second inning. Whittier got a run back in the bottom of the third though, as Nathan Sherman drew a walk then Dane Goodman was able to bring him home with a triple.
Rochester then went on a run to take a 7-1 over the Poets. Whittier however, was not ready to give in and answered back with a 3 spot in the bottom of the fifth. A series of walks and a line drive single to right field by Lew Rice, sparked this Poet rally.
The Yellow Jackets went on to take a 10-4 lead over the Poets, before Teige Barrett came to the plate in the bottom of the seventh. Barrett was able to come up and drive a ball over the left field wall for a solo shot.
Barrett came back up in the bottom of the ninth, with his team trailing 12-5, and hit his second solo homer of the day. This ignited the final rally for the Poets, as they went on to score 2 more runs. The streak would run out there, as they would fall 12-8 to Rochester.
The Poets still have a chance to win the series, as they will take on the Yellow Jackets in a double-header tomorrow. The first game will begin at 10:00 in the morning.
