Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. (April 14, 2023)- Whittier opened another SCIAC series today against the Occidental Tigers. OXY was able to jump on the Poets early and carry it to an 11-1 victory.
The Tigers took advantage of 3 first inning errors made by the Poets, scoring 4 runs. In the fourth the Poets loaded the bases with 1 out, but they came out of that inning with nothing.
OXY went on to score 1 in the fourth, 3 in the seventh, and 3 in the eighth. They were beating the Poets 11-0 going to the bottom of the eighth.
In the bottom half of the inning Sean Conboy was able to come in off the bench to draw a walk. Nathan Sherman then was able to move the runner over to second with a slow groundout. Dane Goodman then came to the plate and continued his impressive season, by singling to center field and bringing home the run. This would be the Poets lone run of the day. Whittier was mercied 11-1 in eight innings.
Goodman reached base 3 times today drawing 2 walks, with an RBI single. Lew Rice, Maximus Berber, and James Stirton each recorded one hit on the day. Other than that the Poet bats were quiet, with only 4 hits total.
