WHITTIER, CA. (Mar. 4, 2024)- After clinching the series win yesterday against Cal Lutheran University, the Poets and Kingsmen faced on on Monday to play the third and final game of the series. The Poets bat did what they have been doing all year and jumped out to an early lead. But Cal Lutheran came ready to play today and would beat Whittier by a final score of 13-2.
Teige Barrett (San Diego, Calif., Mira Mesa) has been on an absolute tear all season. The senior was award SCIAC Hitter of the Week this past week after hitting a .715 with 2 homers and 6 RBIs. In the first inning, Lew Rice (Walkerton, Va., IMG Academy) drew a lead off walk and that brought Barrett to the plate. He wasted no time picking up where he left off yesterday and roped his third homer of the series over the left field fence. This gave the Poets a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
The Kingsmen would go on to control the rest of the game though. Scoring 13 unanswered runs on 14 hits. The final score of this game would end up being 13-2 in 7 innings.
The Whittier College Poets will turn the page on this final game of the series, as they prepare to hit the road for a Texas trip. The boys will head out this Thursday with 6 games in front of them. Their first action will be on Saturday, March 9th at 11:00 CDT against Concordia University (Texas). This will be game 1 of a double-header, as the team will look to get off to a good start.
