Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

4 Different Poets Find The Back Of The Net Against CMS

CLAREMONT, CA. (APR. 17, 2024)- The Whittier Poets took on a tough matchup in the CMS Athenas Wednesday night. The Poets were not able to get their offense rolling tonight and were worn down by the deep Athenas bench. The final score of this game would be 19-4 in favor of CMS.

CMS got off to a good start this game, as their offense was rolling from the get go. The Athenas were able to score 4 goals in the first period and held the Poets scoreless.

The second period was much of the same, with CMS having an outstanding game on the offensive side. The team managed to put up 7 more goals in this period, but the Poets would score the final one. With the clock ticking down and the half coming to an end, Jaycee Morris (Lake Elsinore, Calif., Temescal Canyon HS, La Salle University) got the Poets on the board with her first goal of the game. Going into the half the score was 11-1.

In the third period the Poets were able to slow the Athenas offense down a bit, but CMS still was able to put 4 goals into the back of the net. Chloe Gardhouse (Agoura Hills, Calif, Agoura HS) got herself on the board, scoring the final goal of the third period.

CMS once again came out firing in the final period. The team scored 4 more goals to bring their total to 19. Haley Kivett (Beaverton, Ore., Southridge HS) and Alexandra Haluska (Brea, Calif., Brea Olinda HS, Fullerton College) scored in this last period to make the Poets final score 4.

The team will now look ahead to their final game of the season, this Saturday at home. This matchup will be up against the University of La Verne Leopards, and will begin at 11:00. Prior to the game the teams will be honoring the graduating seniors of both teams, so make sure to come out and support your Poets in their final game of the season.
