WHITTIER, Calif. (Oct. 11, 2025) – The Whittier College women's soccer team continues to heat up, capping off Senior Night in style with a 3-0 win over the University of Redlands on Saturday evening at Memorial Stadium. The Poets earned their second consecutive conference victory and stayed unbeaten at home, setting a new season high in goals in the process.
It was a night to remember for the Poets' senior class. Four-year senior
Alanis Cervantes (La Habra, Calif. / La Habra) opened the scoring in the 48th minute with a curling strike from outside the box that bent perfectly into the upper-right corner for her sixth career goal. The shot came off a setup from sophomore
Annabelle Allison (Carlsbad, Calif. / Sage Creek / Cal State San Marcos), who earned her first career assist on the play. Just two minutes later, senior defender
Jessie Bonsness (Santa Clarita, Calif. / Valencia / College of the Canyons) found the back of the net for her first goal as a Poet. She finished a beautiful give-and-go inside the box with junior
Veronica Perez (San Diego, Calif. / Hoover / San Diego Miramar), who tallied her first collegiate assist.
Whittier's final goal came in the 80th minute from sophomore
Adina Johnson (Reno, Nev. / Edward C. Reed), who turned a long pass downfield from sophomore
Aleena Galvan (Antelope Valley, Calif. / Quartz Hill) into a highlight-reel finish. The strike was the first goal of Johnson's collegiate career, capping off an already memorable Senior Night. After collecting the ball near the goal line, she cut back toward the middle and lofted a right-footed shot over the keeper to close out the 3-0 win.
Goalkeeper
Mya Rodriguez (Visalia, Calif. / El Diamante / College of the Sequoias) anchored the back line with five saves to record her third clean sheet of the year. The defense, led by seniors Bonsness and
Emma Tumbarello (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. / Rancho Cucamonga), limited Redlands to just one first-half shot on frame and kept the Bulldogs from finding any rhythm throughout the night.
With the win, Whittier improves to 5-2-4 overall and 2-2-3 in SCIAC play. The Poets return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 15, traveling to Pasadena to face Caltech at 4 p.m.
