WHITTIER, Calif. (Oct. 29, 2025) – The Whittier College women's soccer team put forth a spirited effort in its home finale on Wednesday afternoon but came up short against Occidental College, 0-2, at Memorial Stadium.
Despite the result, Whittier's defense held firm through long stretches of the match behind an outstanding performance from senior goalkeeper Mya Rodriguez (Visalia, Calif. / El Diamante / College of the Sequoias), who recorded 10 saves to keep her team within striking distance.
Offensively, the Poets tallied 13 shots with junior Nena Saldivar (San Diego, Calif. / Monte Vista / San Diego Miramar), senior Emma Tumbarello (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. / Rancho Cucamonga), and junior Marin Hensley (Tigard, Ore. / Tualatin / Minnesota State Morehead) among those generating key chances.
With the loss, Whittier moves to 6-4-5 overall and 3-4-4 in SCIAC play. The result officially ends the Poets' bid for a postseason berth, but Head Coach Derek Hanks and his team will close out the season on Saturday, Nov. 1, traveling to Thousand Oaks to take on No. 17 California Lutheran at 7 p.m.
