Poets Stay Unbeaten With Another Offensive Showcase

Duley catches fire from deep as 14 Poets record points in 118–70 victory

WHITTIER, Calif. (Nov. 21, 2025) – The Whittier College men's basketball team kept its perfect start rolling with another explosive offensive performance, overwhelming California Miramar University 118–70 on Friday night at Dave Jacobs Court. Behind a barrage of three-pointers and a true team-wide contribution, the Poets once again broke the 100-point mark and improved to 3–0 on the young season.

Whittier's offense was locked in from the opening tip, exploding for 68 first-half points while shooting nearly 58 percent from the field and a blistering 11-for-19 from three. The Poets finished the night at 54.4 percent overall, knocked down 14 threes on 50 percent shooting, and saw 14 different players get on the board in one of their most balanced scoring efforts to date.

Jonathan Duley (Rocklin, Calif. / Del Oro / Cuyamaca College) set the tone with a lights-out shooting performance, knocking down six threes on seven attempts for a team-high 20 points in just 17 minutes. Peyton Guerrero (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Ocean View / Cypress College) followed with his strongest NCAA performance to date, finishing with 17 points and six rebounds, while Brandon Andrews (Houston, Texas / Clear Brook / Palomar College) and Bryce Whitaker (Burbank, Calif. / Providence / Montana State Billings) each added 10 points in efficient fashion. Inside, Tochi Onyeador (Amuri, Nigeria / MEC / Los Medanos College) controlled the glass with eight rebounds to go along with eight points, and Jaden Mathis (Pasadena, Calif. / Pasadena / Palomar College) continued his steady scoring with nine.

Whittier's depth shined throughout the second half. Freshmen Brandon Romo (Whittier, Calif. / Whittier) and Bernardo Zappia (Funes, Argentina / Colegio Sol De Funes) each scored the first points of their collegiate careers, including a special moment for Romo, a Whittier native. Returners Devin Mims (Marin City, Calif. / Tamalpais / College of Marin) and Koleton Fenton (Walnut Creek, Calif. / Miramonte) tallied their first points of the season, and freshman forward Sverre Woudstra (Leiden, Netherlands / Stedelijk Gymnasium Leiden) posted a new career high as the bench contributed an incredible 71 points overall.

Head Coach Mark Jensen and the Poets improve to 3–0 and will remain at home for a Monday noon matchup against Lewis & Clark College on November 24 at Dave Jacobs Court.
