Poets Dominate Possession in Scoreless Draw

Whittier outshoots Justice College 20–0 to remain unbeaten at home

WHITTIER, Calif. (Sept. 17, 2025) –The Whittier College women's soccer team controlled all phases of the game on Saturday morning, but couldn't find the back of the net in a 0-0 draw against Justice College at Memorial Stadium.

The Poets fired 20 shots across the 90 minutes, including 11 on frame, while holding the visiting Lions without a single attempt. Senior midfielder Alanis Cervantes (La Habra, Calif. / La Habra) dictated possession in the second half and created several deep efforts that gave Whittier its best chances. Fellow senior midfielder Samantha Armenta (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Fountain Valley / Cypress College) provided a steady presence in the middle of the field, playing all 90 minutes as the Poets pushed forward throughout the contest.

Head Coach Derek Hanks was able to spread minutes throughout the roster in the non-conference matchup, giving multiple players opportunities to contribute in advance of the SCIAC slate. The Poets also remained unbeaten at home this season, with Memorial Stadium continuing to be a stronghold for the Purple & Gold.

With the result, the Poets move to 3-1-1 on the season. Whittier returns to conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 24, when they travel to Los Angeles for a men's and women's doubleheader against Occidental College, beginning at 7 p.m.
