The junior goalie made three saves in the competitive SCIAC draw

WHITTIER, Calif. (Sept. 27, 2025) – The Whittier College women's soccer team battled Chapman University to a 0-0 draw on Saturday morning at Memorial Stadium in a SCIAC matchup.

The Poets generated 10 shots, five of them on frame, and pressed forward for much of the afternoon. Freshman forward Isabela Menes (Long Beach, Calif. / Millikan / Loyola
Marymount University)
created the bulk of the attack with a team-high five shots, while senior midfielder Alanis Cervantes (La Habra, Calif. / La Habra) and junior defender Vivian Martinez (Palmdale, Calif. / Knight / College of the Canyons) each added quality efforts on goal.

Defensively, Whittier was organized and disciplined, holding the Panthers to just six total shots. Junior goalkeeper Sofia Lopez (Orange, Calif. / Foothill / Cypress College) stood tall
between the posts, recording three saves and earning her second clean sheet of the season. The back line, led by Martinez and senior Emma Tumbarello (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. /
Rancho Cucamonga)
, provided stability throughout the 90 minutes to secure the shutout.

With the result, Whittier moves to 3-2-2 overall and 0-2-1 in SCIAC play. Head Coach Derek Hanks and the Poets return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 1, when they travel to La Verne for a 7 p.m. matchup under the lights against the Leopards.
