LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (Sept. 29, 2025) – Sophomore goalkeeper
Lorenzo Angelucci (Pescara, Italy / Serie B) has been recognized as this week's SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week for men's water polo for his incredible complete-game effort in the Poets' upset of No. 5 California Lutheran University over the weekend.
The Poets defeated the Kingsmen, 14-12, in Thousand Oaks on Saturday with Angelucci leading the way defensively with eight saves over the full 32 minutes. In a game of streaks, Angelucci's work between the pipes helped stymie several would-be Cal Lutheran runs, allowing the Poets to march back down the pool and keep the home team on the end of its punches. Angelucci was especially good in the fourth quarter when the Poets outscored the Kingsmen 5-3, moving their SCIAC record to 1-0 on the young season.
Angelucci and the Poets will next face down an even tougher challenge when they host Division III No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.
