LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (Jan. 12, 2025) – Junior captain
Brandon Andrews (Houston, Texas / Clearbrook / Palomar College) of the Whittier College men's basketball team has been named SCIAC Offensive Athlete of the Week for his string of impressive performances in SCIAC road wins over Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and the University of La Verne.
Andrews averaged 28 points per game, and despite opening the season in a timeshare with starting point guard
Sean Cervantes has seen his season take off following an injury to Cervantes. First, Andrews diced the Sagehens defense to the tune of 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting and added five assists. He then delivered an encore against the Leopards, scoring a career-high 34 points on 13-of-20 shooting while shooting a perfect 7-for-7 at the free throw line. On the week, he shot 86% from the free throw line and more than 60% from the field. Andrews' excellent play since taking over as the starting point guard has the Poets at 3-2 in SCIAC play, in the thick of things as the program accelerates towards the second half of the conference slate.
Andrews and the Poets will return home at long last on Wednesday, Jan. 14 when they host Chapman University for a 7 p.m. SCIAC game.
