Poets Contend with Pomona-Pitzer In First Half

Krikorian, Perkins, Hood highlight steady individual effort

WHITTIER, Calif. (Jan. 7, 2025) – The Whittier College women's basketball team fell 60–44 to Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday night at Dave Jacobs Court in a SCIAC matchup.

Whittier opened the game with energy, holding a one-point edge after the first quarter, but struggled to find offensive rhythm as the game progressed. The Poets were limited to nine points in the second quarter and six in the third, allowing the Sagehens to build separation heading into the final period.

Despite the result, Whittier saw solid individual performances across the floor. Shushan Krikorian (McLean, Va. / McLean / Glendale College) delivered an all-around effort, finishing with nine points, five rebounds, and two assists while logging 32 minutes. Kennedy Perkins (Tehachapi, Calif. / Tehachapi) added 10 points, marking her fifth double-digit scoring performance in the last six games, while continuing to take on a heavy workload inside.

Fresh off earning SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week honors, Xochitl Hood (Whittier, Calif. / Troy / Fullerton College) provided an efficient spark off the bench, scoring six points on 3-of-5 shooting while grabbing six rebounds and adding defensive pressure throughout her 19 minutes.

Whittier moves to 6–6 overall and 1–3 in SCIAC play and will look to respond on the road when Head Coach Kristen Dowling and the Poets face La Verne on Saturday, January 10, at 4 p.m. at The Tents.
