Poets Unleashed: Whittier Drops 98 on Sagehens

Five score in double figures as Whittier delivers dominant second half against Pomona-Pitzer

WHITTIER, Calif. (Feb. 11, 2026) – The Whittier College men's basketball team turned in one of its most complete offensive performances of the season Wednesday night, pouring in a conference-high 98 points in a 98–84 SCIAC victory over Pomona-Pitzer at Dave Jacobs Court.

After a tightly contested first half, the Poets erupted out of the locker room and put together a masterful second-half display. Whittier shot an incredible 22-for-33 from the floor over the final 20 minutes, including 10-for-16 from beyond the arc, turning a one-point halftime edge into a decisive home win.

Jonathan Duley (Rocklin, Calif. / Del Oro / Cuyamaca College) led the way with 21 points, knocking down five three-pointers and continuing his scorching stretch of play. The junior is now averaging 20 points per game over his last five outings.

Peyton Guerrero (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Ocean View / Cypress College) provided a massive spark off the bench, tying his NCAA career high with 19 points while setting a new NCAA career best with five three-pointers, finishing 5-for-6 from deep. Tochi Onyeador (Amuri, Nigeria / MEC / Los Medanos College) recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds, adding three blocks to anchor the interior once again.

Bryce Whitaker (Burbank, Calif. / Providence / Montana State Billings) delivered one of the best all-around performances of his career, setting new NCAA career highs in both points (15) and assists (9) while controlling the tempo of the offense. Jaden Mathis (Pasadena, Calif. / Pasadena / Palomar College) added 14 points, and Chinecherem Nwanevu (Eastvale, Calif. / Norco / San Bernardino Valley College) contributed five assists and strong defensive effort to round out a balanced team performance.

In total, five Poets scored in double figures as Whittier showcased one of the most efficient and dynamic offensive performances of the season under Head Coach Mark Jensen. The Poets finished the night shooting nearly 58 percent from the field and 17-for-37 from three-point range, highlighting the rhythm and spacing of the offense.

Whittier improves to 14–9 overall and 7–7 in SCIAC play. Coach Jensen and the Poets will remain home Saturday, February 14, hosting Caltech at 5 p.m. at Dave Jacobs Court for Senior Night and a Valentine's Day conference showdown.
