Poets close home slate with 64–51 win over Caltech

WHITTIER, Calif. (Feb. 14, 2025) – On Senior Night at Dave Jacobs Court, the Whittier College women's basketball team celebrated its two seniors in fitting fashion, earning a 64–51 SCIAC victory over Caltech in the final home game of the season.

Brooklyn Giles (Fairfield, Calif. / Early College High School / California State University, Los Angeles) and Jadyn Patterson (San Jose, Calif. / Valley Christian / California State University, Stanislaus) were honored prior to tip-off, and the Poets responded with a composed, complete performance on both ends of the floor. Whittier controlled the tempo throughout the evening, building a lead in the first half and maintaining separation behind efficient shooting and steady defense.

Giles delivered a strong Senior Night showing, finishing with 11 points and seven rebounds while anchoring the interior. Patterson contributed across the stat sheet with six rebounds and five assists, facilitating the offense and helping Whittier stay organized throughout the night.

Kennedy Perkins (Tehachapi, Calif. / Tehachapi) led all scorers with 20 points, marking her fifth 20-point performance of the season. The junior added nine rebounds and three steals in another impactful outing. Shushan Krikorian (McLean, Va. / McLean / Glendale College) added 12 points on efficient shooting, while Xochitl Hood (Whittier, Calif. / Troy / Fullerton College) chipped in 11 points and five rebounds to round out a balanced offensive effort.

Whittier shot over 46 percent from the field and held Caltech to just 35 percent shooting, including limiting the Beavers to 12 points in the paint. Jayden Borgna (Ukiah, Calif / Ukiah City / College of San Francisco) provided a spark off the bench with a new NCAA career high in scoring, and the Poets also welcomed the return of Yaneli Rosales Beltran (San Diego, Calif. / Mount Miguel), who saw action for the first time since early December.

The victory marked Whittier's final home appearance of the 2025–26 season and a meaningful sendoff for its senior class.

Whittier improves to 11–12 overall and 6–9 in SCIAC play. Head Coach Kristen Dowling and the Poets will close out the regular season on Saturday, February 21, traveling to Redlands for a 7 p.m. matchup against the University of Redlands.
