Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College men's soccer team battled Occidental to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night. Jack Hindmarsh broke the scoreless tie with his first goal of the season in the 46th minute, but the Tigers responded with an equalizer in the 69th minute.

The Poets outshot Occidental, 4-2, in the first half, while both teams recorded two shots in the second.

Teodor Hamilton and Hindmarsh set the tone early, each recording a shot in the opening minutes. Occidental responded with an opportunity in the 13th minute but was unable to break through.

Fabian Gluch and Nils Degardin also created scoring opportunities for Whittier in the first half, but neither found the target. The teams entered halftime tied, 0-0.
Whittier wasted little time breaking the deadlock in the second half. Jack Born chipped a pass toward Hindmarsh, who made a run toward goal. Without letting the ball touch the ground, Hindmarsh flicked it into the air before firing a volley into the upper-right corner to give the Poets a 1-0 lead in the 46th minute.

Occidental responded 23 minutes later, capitalizing on a corner kick to level the match at 1-1 in the 69th minute.

Goalkeeper Diego Saldivar made a key save to prevent the Tigers from taking the lead. Gluch had another opportunity in the 80th minute, but his attempt was turned away as both teams searched for a late winner.

With the draw, Whittier moves to 2-1-5 overall and 1-0-1 in SCIAC play, remaining unbeaten in conference competition.

The Poets will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 26, when they host Chapman University at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
