Prior to Whittier
Transferred from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Attended Citrus Valley High School, where he was a CIF Champion, All-Citrus Belt League First Team honoree, All-Citrus Belt League Second Team honoree. He also won the Leadership Award, Most Inspiring Award, and Service Award.

Personal
Son of Cindy and Perry Mecate. Has three siblings, Chris, Helene, and Hannah. Enjoys going to the beach, spending time with friends, watching sunsets, and listening to live music. Lists Ilia Topuria as the athlete he admires most.
