Payton Lindsey

Payton joined the Sports Medicine staff in August 2021 as the Assistant Athletic Trainer before ascending to Head Athletic Trainer in August of 2022. Payton primarily works with football, men's & women's soccer, women's basketball, baseball, women's lacrosse, and track & field teams. Payton has been a preceptor for both Azusa Pacific University and California State University Fullerton. She also piloted Whittier College's first Sports Medicine Internship program, assisting selected students in gaining hands on clinical experience in the field of athletic training. In addition to her role at Whittier College, she is also a Professor in the Kinesiology department at California State University of Los Angeles and Head Athletic Trainer for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes SoCal Shepherds Collegiate Baseball team. Before settling in at Whittier College, Payton held a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer position at Azusa Pacific University where she was responsible for the care of acrobatics and tumbling, football, and swimming and diving teams. She has also served as the Head Athletic Trainer for Athletes in Action Ultimate Training summer camps and Chiropractic Assistant at MN Spine and Sport where she focused on providing treatment and rehabilitation.

Payton received her B.S. in Health, Exercise & Rehabilitative Sciences in Athletic Training from Winona State University (2019). After leaving Minnesota, she then went on to earn her M.S. in Physical Education and Sport Management from Azusa Pacific University (2020). Payton has also completed part of a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. Beyond her high level of education, Payton brings additional certifications that add to her skill set. She holds her Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) from the National Academy of Sports Medicine, a certification in Blood Flow Restriction, and Emergency Medical Responder certification.

Payton is currently a member of The Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association, National Athletic Trainers’ Association, and Minnesota Athletic Trainers’ Association, California Athletic Trainers' Association, Far West Athletic Trainer's Association, Safe 360, and Safesport.

Payton currently resides in Pasadena where she enjoys hiking, trying new taco trucks, and doing service work within the community in her free time.
