WHITTIER, Calif. - The 2019 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) baseball teams were announced Thursday following a vote conducted by the league's member head coaches.
Freshman Dane Goodman (Ross, Calif.) led in the voting for Whittier College not only being named the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year but also landing on the 1st Team. Senior Justin Kottinger (Stockton, Calif.) was also recognized landing on the 2nd Team for the first time in his career.
Goodman registered a .365 batting average with 27 hits, which included three doubles, two triples, four homers, and 23 runs driven in. He walked 10 times and swiped five bases while tallying a .442 on-base percentage and a .622 slugging percentage. Overall on the season he batted .390 with 46 hits, which included four homeruns, four triples, and five doubles. He also added 32 runs batted in, 71 total bases, 18 runs scored, a .452 OBP and a .602 SLG%.
Kottinger had a solid season coming out of the bullpen. In conference play he was 3-1 with a save throwing 20 Innings, while surrendering just five runs. He also added 12 strikeouts and averaged 5.40 strikeouts per game with a 2.25 ERA. Overall on the season he was 4-1 with three saves and had a 6.94 strikeouts per game average with a 1.80 ERA, the best numbers he has put up in his career.
