Alex Retana named SCIAC Newcomer of the Year

2018-19 All-SCIAC Awards

WHITTIER, Calif. - The 2018 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Football teams were announced last week following a vote conducted by the league's member head coaches.

Freshman running back Alex Retana (Whittier, Calif.) headlined the award recognition being named the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year.

Retana chalked up 571 yards on the ground against league competition in his debut season. The Poets' leading rusher in conference action notched 81.6 yards per game (4.7 per carry) and scored five touchdowns. He also raced for a long run of 50 yards.

Within conference he ranked No. 3 in rushes, No. 5 in yards and yards per game and was No. 6 in touchdowns.
