Lucas Govan returns to Whittier College for his second stint with the Poets, now serving as Offensive Coordinator.
Govan brings extensive experience at the NCAA Division I FCS and Pioneer Football League levels. Most recently, he coached Tight Ends and Tackles at the University of San Diego in 2024, helping lead an offensive unit that ranked fourth nationally in FCS run blocking and finished among the nation’s top 10 in pass efficiency according to Pro Football Focus. During his time with the Toreros, he coached three All-Conference performers and coordinated the team’s goal-line and short-yardage packages.
Prior to his return to Whittier, Govan served as Director of Player Personnel at UC Davis in 2023, overseeing recruiting operations and helping assemble the highest-rated recruiting class in program history. He also held multiple coaching roles at the University of San Diego, including Assistant Offensive Line Coach and Tight Ends/Fullbacks Coach.
Govan previously served on the Whittier College staff as Run Game Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach, where he developed two All-Conference offensive linemen, including one who went on to play professionally for the Helsinki Wolverines in Finland.
His coaching career also includes stops at Feather River College and Humboldt State University. At Feather River, he coached quarterbacks and special teams, leading conference-best units in punt return average, kick return average, and PAT percentage. Three quarterbacks from that team advanced to four-year programs. At Humboldt State, his alma mater, he coached multiple All-Conference offensive linemen, including future NFL draft pick Alex Cappa of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
A native of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, Govan was an accomplished player at both Carmel High School and Humboldt State University. As a collegiate offensive lineman, he earned two All-American selections, multiple All-Region and All-Conference honors, and was a member of Humboldt State’s 2015 GNAC Championship team.
Govan earned both his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Master of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Adapted Physical Education from Humboldt State University.
