Mark Jensen enters his third year at the helm of the Men’s Basketball program at Whittier College. Coach J spent the last 12 years assisting at Whittier under long time head coach and current Senior Associate Director of Athletics Rock Carter and is excited about taking on this new challenge. Coach J has been an integral factor in the Poets recent success, helping lead the team to 3 post-season SCIAC Tournament berths in the last 5 years and 4 appearances in the last 10. He’s also recruited 8 All-SCIAC performers including 2 SCIAC Newcomer Award winners.

Coach Jensen graduated from Whittier in 2000 with a BA in History after playing two seasons as a Poet, transferring from Cypress College. Following his playing days, Coach J spent one year as a volunteer assistant at Cypress College and then coached at Rogers High School in Spokane, Washington under 14-year NBA standout Craig Ehlo. From there, Coach Jensen went on to coach 3 seasons of junior college basketball as an assistant at Rio Hondo College before coming back to his alma mater in 2006. Coach J earned an MA in Education from Whittier in 2007, and in 2008 was named the Director of Intramurals & Recreation at the college, a position he still maintains in addition to his coaching duties.

Coach Jensen resides in nearby Brea, CA with his wife Emily and their 3 children: Devon, Drew and Jordan.
