Coaching Accomplishments
Shea Harwell was named the Whittier College Head Men’s Soccer Coach in 2011 and since that time has compiled a 77-119-11, 64-95-10 SCIAC record. Over his tenure, he has earned a spot in the SCIAC Tournament four times, most recently in 2019 after posting an 8-6-2, 7-3-2 SCIAC record, while achieving the No. 3 seed. In 2012 and 2013, his teams posted the highest win totals during his time as Head Coach at 10-12, 9-7 SCIAC (2012) & 11-8-1, 10-5-1 SCIAC (2013). During the 2012 season, the Poets upset the top-seeded Sagehens in the SCIAC Tournament Semi-Finals, and it was the first time in program history a team had upset a Top-25 team.
Shea has seen 26 student-athletes gain All-SCIAC recognition, which included six earning accolades in 2019. That same team also earned a Div. III West Region Ranking of No. 7.
Prior to Whittier College, he served as an Assistant coach at Peninsula College in Port Angeles, Wash., where the team finished second in the NWAACC with a record of 10-5-1. He also served as the Assistant Coach and goalie trainer at Port Angeles High School.
Education
Shea earned his B.S. in Kinesiology with an emphasis on teaching and coaching from Whittier College and helped lead the Men's Soccer team to back-to-back SCIAC tournament appearances. Prior to attending Whittier, he was a member of the Peninsula College soccer team for two years where he served as a team captain.
Coaching Credentials and Licenses
Harwell, a native of Gig Harbor, WA holds his National, Advanced National, Premier Diploma and Goalkeeping Level I Diploma from the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America).
He also holds a USSF (United States Soccer Federation) B License.
Shea currently resides in Whittier, Calif. with his wife Brianna Gonzales-Harwell and their daughter Liberty.
