Nesbit began his tenure as head coach of Whittier men's and women's water polo in January 2023. Coach Nesbit brings a vast wealth of experience leading teams at the local, regional and national levels.
Nesbit has been the USA Water Polo ODP (Olympic Development Program) Zone Head Coach since 2017 and accrued second-places finishes in the National Championship games in 2018, 2019, and 2022. In 2021, Nesbit coached and traveled with the USA National Cadet team in Budapest, Hungary to train and compete. In 2016, Nesbit began coaching internationally by visiting Dubrovnik, Croatia, and Herceg Novi, Montenegro.
Nesbit has an extensive club coaching career that began with Foothill Cub Water Polo (2015-2017) and Rancho Tsunami Water Polo Club (2017-2023). In his time at the club level, Nesbit has personally brought home 14u Boys third place (2016 Foothill), 14u Boys second place (2018 Tsunami), and 18u Boys second place (2021 Tsunami) Junior Olympics medals. Notably Nesbit also led his 12u Girls (2021 Tsunami) to a national top sixth place finish contending along the ranks of Vanguard and Socal.
Nesbit spent nine seasons at Alta Loma High School as the Boy’s and Girl’s Head Coach. In this time Nesbit began the process of leading the Braves from a CIF-SS Division 7 rank to what is now a CIF-SS Division 1 rank. The nine year tenure would bring Boys team league championships in the Mt. Baldy League in 2015, 2016, and 2017, along with a Palomares League championship in 2019. The Girls would bring home a school first CIF-SS Division 6 championship among Mt Baldy League Championships in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.
Nesbit’s personal accolades include the 2020 USA Water Polo "Ted Newland Distinguished Coaching Award”, 2017 Girls CIF-SS Division 6 "Coach of the Year” award, the 2015 and 2017 Girls Inland Valley “Coach of the Year” Award, and the 2016 Inland Valley “Coach of the Year” Award.
Nesbit’s playing career began at Rancho Cucamonga High School where he accomplished a four year varsity letter for both water polo and swim, a three time All Mt Baldy League MVP (swim), four time first team All Mt Baldy League (swim), two time first team All Mt Baldy League (water polo), two time first team All CIF (swim and water polo), and two time All American (swim). Collegiately Nesbit spent time at Chaffey College and playing for James Graham at Santa Rosa Junior College, now University of Pacific head coach, where they secured a Northern California Regional Championship and contended in the California State Final. Nesbit was named two time All South Coast Conference (swim and water polo), two time All State (swim), and All American (Swim).
Nesbit obtained his Bachelor’s of Arts degree in History and a secondary teaching credential from Sonoma State University in 2007 and was a high school U.S. History and Government teacher at Piner High School in Santa Rosa Junior College. Post-teaching, Nesbit began his education in Fire Science at Santa Rosa Junior College where he obtained an Associates of Science degree.
Nesbit was a club swimmer for Hillside Aquatics and club water polo player for CATS Water Polo located in Rancho Cucamonga, California.
In his free time, Nesbit enjoys spending time with his two boxers Maui and Jubilee, working out, traveling, going to concerts, and watching sports such as baseball, basketball, and water polo. Nesbit currently resides in Rancho Cucamonga.
