In his first year with the Poets in 2018, Ondrusek coached a defense that was the #1 Ranked Team for Caused Turnovers in NCAA Divison III Men's Lacrosse. This defense included six of the (current) Top Ten Ranked Players in Whittier Lacrosse for Caused Turnovers, Whittier's All-Time Saves Leader Alex Cramer, and 2019 USILA Scholar All-American Max Lepley.
"We are very fortunate to have such a relentless and intelligent individual such as Mike Ondrusek on our staff", explains Marks. “I coached Mike all four of his years at Bucknell where he was a team captain, and I have a lot of trust in him to run our defense. Mike is inheriting an experienced group that is very eager to learn from a bright mind like his. He is going to make a tremendously positive impact on our student-athletes. Mike is the son of a coach, that has forged him into an effective leader. I could not be more excited about his presence in our program as I believe this individual has a bright future ahead of him.”
Rising from a preferred walk-on to a Team Captain in 2015, Mike lead the defense to a Top 20 Division I ranking in caused turnovers per game (7.33). The Bison achieved this Top 20 ranking all four years Ondrusek was playing at Bucknell. Over the course of his playing career Ondrusek and the Bison achieved wins over Top 20 programs such as Cornell, Brown, Penn, Albany, Drexel, Penn State, Delaware, Bryant, Fairfield, Navy, Army, Loyola, Colgate, Lehigh, and Boston University. Individually, Ondrusek was a "jack of all trades" for the Bison, plugging in at short-stick defensive midfield, long stick defensive midfield, close defense, and on the man-down unit as well.
Ondrusek received his B.A. from Bucknell University in Pennsylvania with a double major in economics and political science. He now resides in Fullerton.
