Poets fight on the road but fall to Kingsmen

WHITTIER, Calif. –  The Whittier College Men's Swimming & Diving team fell to the Kingsmen of Cal Lutheran University on Saturday, 148-80. 

The Poets would start out strong with the 400 Medley Relay team of Michael Laws (Anacortes, WA), Quinn LaCoursiere (Delray Beach, FL), Colin-James Fellezs (Mililani, HI) and Gianluca Bencomo (San Jose, Calif.) touching ahead of Cal Lutheran at 3:45.26 for 1st.

The distance pair of Will Ansparger (Long Beach, Calif.) and Anders Blomso (Shoreline, WA) would get the individual scoring started by going 3-4 in the 1000 Free with Arnsparger later earning 4th (5:14.58) in the 500 Free. In the remaining Free events, Bencomo would earn 3rd in the 50 going 22.38 and 4th in the 100.

Fellezs would score some more points for the Poets in the 400 IM, finishing 3rd (4:28.72) and later touching 3rd in the 200 Breast (2:20.92), just behind LaCoursiere in 2nd (2:20.68). In the other stroke events, first-year Devin Gaude (Lakewood, Calif.) would earn 4th in the 200 Fly by going a 2:06.83.

Wrapping up the scoring for the day, Senior Trevor Tuma (Vashon Island, WA) would finish 4th in the 200 Back (2:16.95) and later join the 400 Free "A" Relay of Ansparger, Adonnis Rivera (Lynwood, Calif.), and Gaude to touch 4th (3:33.27).

Whittier returns to the pool, Saturday, February 3 as they travel to the University of Redlands.
