WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Swimming & Diving team took part in their first tri-match of 2018-19 this past Saturday as they took on Pomona-Pitzer and Occidental at the Slade Aquatic Center. Following tough windy and smoky conditions, the Poets went 0-2 falling 184-48 to the Sagehens and 153-59 to Occidental.
Christopher Puellinski (Cromwell, CT) was the lone scorer on the boards finishing 4th on the 3-meter with a 136.20 and then 5th on the 1-meter with a 120.20. Brandon Tran (Chicago, IL) led the Purple & Gold winning the 100 Breast with a 58.70. He then followed that up with a 2nd place finish in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:11.62 and then finished his big day off with a 3rd place finish in the 200 IM (2:04.16).
Michael Laws (Anacortes, WA) had an impressive day finishing 4th in the 100 Free (50.22). Went 22.57 in the 50 Free, which put him 5th, then went 7th in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 57.56. Scott Williams (Coronado, Calif.), in just his second season with the Purple & Gold swam to a 3rd place finish in the 200 Fly (1:59.98) and then went 7th in the 100 Free (51.50) and 8th in the 100 Fly (57.80).
Braden Postil (Newport Beach, Calif.) added to the Poets point total going 8th in the 200 Backstroke (2:22.25), 9th in the 100 Backstroke (1:04.34) and 10th in the 100 Fly (1:01.31).
Other scoring came from Yehya Nasser (Duarte, Calif.) who finished 10th in the 100 Breast (1:23.74) and 11th in the 50 Free (28.07). Will Arnsparger (Long Beach, Calif.) who took 6th in the 1000 Free (10:56.11), 5th in the 200 IM (2:10) and 5th in the 500 Free (5:07.70). Devin Gaude (Lakewood, Calif.) took 5th in the 1000 Free (10:41.47) and 7th in the 500 Free (5:13.03). Lastly, was freshman Ruben Gallegos (Albuquerque, NM) who finished 8th in the 500 Free (6:07.70) and 100 Free (57.84).
Whittier travels this Saturday, November 17 to take on the University of La Verne beginning at 10:30am.
