WHITTIER, Calif. – Despite small numbers, the Whittier College Men's Swimming & Diving team showed toughness Saturday morning falling 251-36 to Claremont-M-S at the Slade Aquatic Center.

Sophomore Christopher Pudlinski (Cromwell, CT) earned the first points for the Purple & Gold placing 5th in the 1-meter (180.35) and 6th on the 3-meter (149.50).  The first swim event, the team of Spencer LaCoursiere (Delray Beach, FL), Quinn LaCoursiere (Delray Beach, FL), Scott Williams (Coronado, Calif.), and Gianluca Bencomo (San Jose, Calif.) swam to a 4th place finish in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:41.07, picking up another two points.

Will Arnsparger (Long Beach, Calif.) then added another two tallies by placing 4th in the 1000 Free (11:00.92). S. LaCoursiere, a new addition to the Poet roster then took part in his first individual event taking 4th in the 100 Back (56.97).  His brother Q. La Coursiere then led a trio of Poets in the 100 Breast finishing 2nd overall with a time of 1:00.00.  He was joined by Elijah Cooper (7th – 1:19.60) and Yehya Nasser (Duarte, Calif.) (8th – 1:21.56).

Freshman Williams returned in the 200 Fly to finish 4th (2:08.55) and Bencomo grabbed 3rd in the 50 free with a time of 22.84.  Bencomo and Cooper went 5-6 in the 100 Free with times of 53.82 and 58.18, respectively.  S. LaCoursiere remained tough this time in the 200 Back finishing 4th (2:07.88) in front of a 6-7 finish by Q. LaCoursiere (2:22.58) and Nasser (2:57.21) in the 200 Breast.

Ruben Gallegos (Albuquerque, NM) got his first action of the day in the 200 Free finishing 9th with a time of 2:07.07 but bounced back in the 5000 Free finishing 5th (6:04.95).  Williams and Arnsparger were the final two Poets to pick up points.  Williams picked up two in the 100 Fly finishing 10th (57.32) and Arnsparger would grab two as well taking 9th in the 200 IM (2:08.46).                 

Whittier returns to the pool and remains in conference play next Saturday, January 19 when they travel to Pasadena to take on Caltech beginning at 11:00am.
