PASADENA, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Swimming & Diving team competed Saturday against Caltech with small numbers and came away with their fourth head to head loss on the season falling 210-50.
Chris Pudlinski (Cromwell, CT) got the scoring started for the Purple & Gold picking up 18 points by winning the 3-meter (162.95) and 1-meter boards (148.40). After that Will Arnsparger (Long Beach, Calif.) and the LaCoursiere brothers took over. Spencer LaCoursiere (Delray Beach, FL) joined his brother Quinn LaCoursiere (Delray Beach, FL), Arnsparger, and Yahya Nasser (Duarte, Calif.) in the 200 Medley Relay finishing 4th with a time of 1:48.08.
Arnsparger then picked up points in the 1650 Free finishing 3rd (18:39.27) and then returned in the 400 IM to take top honors with a time of 4:29.71. Freshman Ruben Gallegos (Albuquerque, NM) played a strong supportive role for the Purple & Gold taking 4th in the 200 Free (2:07.14) and 6th in the 100 Free (55.40).
Nasser, who is also a first-year swam the 100 Breast and finished 6th (1:21.61) before taking 5th in the 200 Breast (2:58.14). S. LaCoursiere who moved over from water polo with his older brother has made a big impact for the Poet swim program. He took 3rd in the 100 Back (1:00.72) and then 2nd in the 200 Back (2:06.90). His brother Quinn swam the 50 Free and took 3rd (21.91) and then took part in the 200 Breast taking 2nd with a time of 2:19.28.
In the final event on the day, both LaCoursiere's joined Gallegos and Arnsparger in the 200 Free Relay finishing 3rd with a time of 1:35.74.
Whittier returns home to the Slade Aquatic Center on Saturday, February 2 as they host Chapman University beginning at 11:00am.
