Whittier battles No. 36 Hobart 6-3

WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Tennis team had a battle with No. 36 Hobart College falling 6-3 at the Richard Ettinger Tennis Courts.

The Purple & Gold fell behind early 2-1 after doubles with their lone win coming from the No. 2 team of Pim Van Der Veer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and Matt Yanuck (Studio City, Calif.) pulling out an 8-6 win.  Jesse Eccles (Queenstown, New Zealand) and Chris Palacio (El Centro, Calif.) had an opportunity at No. 3 but couldn't overcome a late break falling 8-6. 

In singles the Poets made a strong push winning at No. 3 and No. 6.  Yanuck edged out Walker Anderson 7-5, 7-5 and Palacio won in straights 6-1, 7-6 (2) at the bottom.  Eccles had a chance to get a fourth point for WC at No. 5 overcoming a 6-1 loss in the opening set to win the second 6-3.  But he couldn't keep it going dropping in a third 6-1.
