CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College men’s track & field team earned 24.5 points and finished seventh at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships on Saturday afternoon at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
Competing in his final conference championships, TC Collymore walked away with a second and third place finish in the Long Jump and Triple Jump, respectively.
Collymore took second in the Long Jump with a distance of 21-feet, 10 and one-quarter inches. He was joined by Kimble Tillman who also earned all-conference recognition with a fifth place finish. Tillman had a distance of 21-feet, five and one-half inches. In the Triple Jump, Collymore took third with a distance of 42-feet, eight inches.
The speed team of Anthony Bennett, Oreese Hoyes, Richard Hoover and Tillman ran their way to a fourth place finish in the 4x100 Relay. The squad ran a 42.91 and was just .61 seconds out of first place.
Hoyes, who qualified first in Friday’s preliminaries for the 100 Meter Dash, was disqualified before the finals because of a late entry. In the prelims he ran a 10.87. The winning time in the finals was a 10.90.
The Poets’ field performances continued in the High Jump, Shot Put and Javelin. Jonathan Palomino finished tied for fifth in the High Jump with a height of five-feet, 10 inches. Brandon Wilcox finished fifth in the Shot Put with a distance of 47-feet, seven and one-quarter inches.
Brad Seitz rounded out the all-conference performances with a 165-feet, seven inches effort in the Javelin. He placed sixth.
Travis Airola just missed out the all-conference squad in the 1500 Meter Run. He finished seventh with a time of 4:04.74, less than one second out of sixth place.
Jonathon Grubb put forth a solid effort in the Pole Vault with a height of 11-feet, 11 and three-quarter inches. He finished seventh, just over one foot out of sixth place.
